USSD
Unstructured Supplementary Services Data is a GSM service that allows high speed interactive communication between the subscribers and applications across a GSM Network. A session oriented protocol -USSD is not a store and forward Service USSD requests are processed instantaneously in contrast to SMPP requests which are stored for transmission on the SMSC.

GPRS
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a packet based communication service for mobile devices. The service sends "packets" of data over a radio wave (on the GSM network). Packet switching works like a jigsaw puzzle: your data is split into many pieces, then sent over the network and reassembled at the other end. The service joins together multiple speech channels to provide higher bandwidth data connections for GPRS data users. The total radio bandwidth is shared between the voice users and the data users.

WAP
Wireless application protocol (WAP) is an application environment and a set of communication protocols for wireless devices designed to enable manufacturer, vendor, technology independent access to internet and advanced telephony services.

WAP bridges the gap between the mobile world and the internet as well as corporate intranets and offers the ability to deliver unlimited range of value added services to mobile subscribers independent of their bearer network or terminal. Mobile subscribers can access the same wealth of information from a pocket size device as they would get from a desktop.

WAP also defines a Wireless Application Environment (WAE) aimed at enabling operators, manufacturers and content developers to develop advanced differentiating services including a micro browser, scripting facilities, email and world wide web to mobile handset messaging and mobile to telex access.

LBS
Location based tracking is a service which is used to locate the subscriber location. This identified location could be used for providing various location-based services. These could vary from tracking the fleet of vehicles by transporters to doing promotions based on location of subscriber. It is also a very useful utility service for the corporate which want to keep track of their people in the field. An important distinction between location based services and other services is that this network based solution is independent of both handset and Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs). Users are not required to have the newest phone or a specific brand of phone. It is only the operator who will keep track of the phone. This service may require the acceptance of B-Party whose location is to be disclosed based on how the service is implemented. Wireless service providers can generate revenue from service management, using a wealth of existing subscriber data.

VM
Subscriber subscribes to this service by calling a number (which has to be configured at operator's end). Calls are diverted to a voice mail box number (another number to be configured at the operational end). Subscriber can choose to divert the calls to this voice mail box number in case the phone is out of reach, switched off, busy, not answered or may be for all calls. This intelligent service will then act as a personal assistant. Attend to the call, record the message and notify the subscriber of the call which was missed out. Details of this call would then be retrieved by calling an (IVRS) number (provided by the operator).

IVR
Short for Interactive Voice Response, a technology in which someone uses a touch-tone telephone to interact with a database to acquire information from or enter data into the database.

The IVR system incorporates Dialogic boards, can run on Windows/Linux, is an open platform and can interact with a varied forms of databases.

IVR technology does not require human interaction over the telephone as the user's interaction with the database is predetermined by what the IVR system will allow the user access to.

CRBT
Instead of hearing the familiar “ring” tone when calling someone, color ring back tone (CRBT) lets wireless service subscribers play their favorite tune, sound, jingle, or phrase to incoming callers. With the ability to choose the ring tone a caller will hear, subscribers have an instant way to express their own individuality — and enterprises have the option to provide a customized message to the calling party. The extensive penetration of mobile handsets, particularly among developed countries has increased the demand for a large variety of handset models and related applications. The need for personal expression worldwide has filtered into the cellular phone industry.

An important distinction between color ring back tones and other services is that this network-based solution is independent of both handset and Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM's). .

Users are not required to have the newest phone or a specific brand of phone. Therefore, operators have the flexibility to offer personalized ring back services to all types of subscribers (i.e., postpaid or prepaid, fixed or mobile)
